Being Proactive
September 24th, 2007Proactive decision making is making a decision about something before having to make the decision.
Example 1: The Gym
Pretend like you want to live a healthier life to feel and look better. That decision is made now. In order to accomplish that decision you must go to the gym at least three times a week. How are you getting there? What time you are going? What day? What are you going wear? You decide on everything before even going or being presented with the choice to go. When the day and time comes, that you decided on previously, there is no thinking or deciding, there is only action. The choice making is eliminated, even if you are sick, tired, depressed. The decision has already been made. In the worst case, go to the gym, sit in the locker room, go home. The mind set is, there is no way of getting out of the decision.
You missed a day? In general it’s okay if it’s an abnormity. If you missed two days, you didn’t make a proactive decision. When the time came you didn’t act which is what a proactive decision entails.
Proactive decision making is about a life style not an event. The proactive decision is a change in your life that was purposely done to improve yourself.
Example 2: School
Before enrolling into the class decide what grade you want to get. A? Now think and decide what it takes to get that A. In general for every hour in class you must spend 2 hours studying. If you go to a shitty school and the teacher doesn’t challenge you, it might be 30 minutes for every hour in class. Regardless make the decision before enrolling and set the time. Then when that day and time rolls by, study for that class. Tired? Look at the pretty pictures or letters and symbols. It’s just something you are going to do. No way out.
